Over the last five years, the medical community has been making significant progress in the uterus transplantation process, of which there is an increasing interest. The success stories may give the general public the impression that uterus transplantation is now an established medical practice, that it is safe to participate, and that it can be accessed by women with uterine infertility, but this is not accurate. Τhe success rates of uterus transplantations are indeed impressive, but concerns have been raised in regard to the risks involved for both recipients and (living) donors. Furthermore, there are still some open issues, such as the selection criteria for clinical trials, the termination of pregnancy following uterus transplantation, the establishment of an international uterus transplant registry and the appropriate sources of uteri, which need further research and clarification. It should therefore be emphasized that uterus transplantation is still in the experimental stages of clinical research.
