Takis C. Vidalis

Takis C. Vidalis received his Ph.D. in law from the University of Athens (1995).
In 2001 he was elected a senior scientist and legal advisor of the Hellenic National Bioethics Commission.

He is the author (or co-author) of 7 books and more than 40 academic papers mostly on Bioethics, Biolaw, Medical Ethics and Medical Law.
He participated with original papers in more than 100 international and national conferences and workshops, and numerous research projects.
Since 2005, T. Vidalis acts as an independent expert in Research Ethics and Law for the European Commission. As an international expert, he contributed also, to the

UNESCO’s Global Ethics Observatory (GEObs) Database on Ethics Related Legislation and Guidelines.

T. Vidalis was a member of the lawmaking committee for the Greek Act on Transplantations (law 2737/1999), and contributed to the ratification process of the Oviedo Convention on Human Rights and Biomedicine (law 2619/1998). He was also a member of the lawmaking committee for the establishment of RECs in universities and research institutes (law 4521/2018). Currently, he is the president of the lawmaking committee working for the rights of patients in dementia.

He is the president of the Research Ethics Committee of the leading research Institute in Greece “Democritus”, and a full member of RECs at the University of Crete and at the Athens University of Economics and Business. Also, he is a full member of the National Ethics Committee for Clinical Trials, of the Alzheimer’s National Observatory’s executive board, and a deputy member of the National Committee for the Laboratory Animals Welfare.
A member of the Athens Bar Association, T. Vidalis is senior partner of the Athens Law Firm.
